2019 Cadillac CTS vs. 2019 Jaguar XF
With their high-tech entertainment features and sleek styling, the new Cadillac CTS and Jaguar XF ooze luxury. But, which luxury mid-sized sedan should you drive? Compare both upscale vehicle’s key features to select the best vehicle for you.
Luxury & Convenience
The CTS and XF are both aimed at motorists who enjoy the finer things in life.
Drivers and front passengers enjoy a luxurious amount of space in these well-appointed vehicles. Rear passengers will love the Jaguar, but they may feel claustrophobic in the Cadillac, as its sexy, low roofline reduces headroom. That’s no problem for families with small children, but it may annoy growing teens. Cars like the CTS are much more suited to carefree couples, though.
Sadly, both cars use synthetic leather on the standard-model seats, but genuine leather seats are available on higher trim levels. The leatherette is admittedly very user-friendly and easy to maintain, although it doesn’t have the sumptuous touch of authentic leather.
For controlling accessories and fine-tuning comfort, the Jaguar’s high-tech touchscreen is a little larger, but Cadillac’s infotainment unit is still serviceable. It’s also arguably more useful, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility in addition to Bluetooth. Brands like Jaguar should understand that modern drivers want easy smartphone integration.
If you love feeling the wind in your hair, you’ll appreciate the fact that the sunroof is standard on the XF. Cadillac charges extra, but it’s an additional expense worth paying for ultimate luxury.
Premium brands like Jaguar have always prided themselves on creating high-performance motor vehicles. The XF continues that tradition, with peppy engines, smooth suspension, and rail-sure handling. The 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine is Jaguar’s most popular, delivering 247 or 296 horsepower, depending on your chosen package. If you prefer something more powerful, select one of the V-6 versions. The supercharged V-6 is a real treat, with 380 horsepower taking it from zero to 60 mph in just five seconds.
The Cadillac CTS is the real surprise, though. Gone are the handling issues that plagued Cadillacs of old. The 2019 CTS is sure-footed and agile. Its base model’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder motor is mightier than the comparable Jaguar engine, generating 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. For some real fun, select the V-Sport. Its 3.6-liter twin-turbo V-6 makes 420 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, propelling it from zero to 60 in just 4.6 seconds.
With a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $46,995, you can get behind the wheel of a new Cadillac CTS for around $3,000 less than the base model Jaguar XF. At the top end, there’s very little to separate the vehicles. A fully tricked-out CTS will cost $71,795, while the Jaguar XF with all the bells and whistles should retail for $71,215.
The 2019 Cadillac CTS and 2019 Jaguar XF are both exceptional motor vehicles that exemplify excellence. Understated and sophisticated, both vehicles have what it takes to turn heads. Jaguar has a long history of creating vehicles of extraordinary pedigree, but Cadillac may have a slight edge this time around.
